ADHD Parent Coaching in Columbia, MD
Parent-Management Training & Coaching to Help Parents Build a Calmer Home
Real Clinical Support for Every Parent Raising a Child with ADHD
(And Why Parent Training Works
When Generic Advice Doesn't)
Parenting a child with ADHD comes with a specific kind of exhaustion: meltdowns that seem to come out of nowhere, homework battles, and worries about how their child's behavior is landing at school. Most parent coaches working in this space are solo practitioners without clinical training behind them. At Wellness Space Counseling, families get something different: coaching backed by a full counseling practice.
The program is led by Mark Wilson, LMSW, a clinician who is also an International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certified Coach, a credential widely regarded as the gold standard in the coaching field. Mark brings both clinical training and lived experience to every session, giving families a parent coach who understands the diagnosis from the inside and the outside.
What Makes Our ADHD Parenting Coach Different
Because coaching sits inside a licensed counseling practice, families get parent training grounded in evidence-based clinical modalities, not general life-coaching techniques repurposed for ADHD.
What Is ADHD Parent Coaching?
ADHD parent coaching is structured, evidence-based support that helps parents understand their child’s nervous system and adapt environments so executive function hurdles don’t turn into conflict.
Rather than one-size-fits-all parenting classes, sessions are influenced by Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), one of the most researched approaches for child and family behavior management.
Coaching is available for parents of children up to 18, and it complements, but is separate from, direct ADHD therapy for the child.
How Parent-Management
Training (PMT) Helps Parents
Support Kids with ADHD
We take the gold-standard framework of PMT and adapt it to be neurodiversity-affirming—focusing on environmental modifications, externalizing visual structure, and relationship-building rather than rigid compliance.
When emotions run hot and daily routines fall apart, it's hard to know what to do differently. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics clinical practice guideline, parent training in behavior management is strongly recommended as a first-line approach for children with ADHD. Together, we'll build a connected home environment where clear expectations, positive reinforcement, and consistent routines replace power struggles.

+ Impulsivity and difficulty following directions
+ Emotional meltdowns and dysregulation
+ Difficulty with transitions and shifting between tasks
+ Time management and task completion
+ Trouble with organization and daily routines
+ Friction around demands, emotional overwhelm, and daily task initiation barriers
+ Weak follow-through on homework and responsibilities
Coaching Program Built on Five Evidence-Based Approaches
Unlike group ADHD parenting classes, our coaching model is tailored to your family. Sessions draw from:
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT): Structured coaching to help parents adapt the environment, set clear routines, and use positive reinforcement effectively
Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS): Frames challenging behavior as unsolved problems, involving your child in calm, proactive problem-solving to reduce power struggles
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for Parents: Supports caregiver mental health by helping parents manage burnout, practice self-compassion, and stay aligned with their values
Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT): Teaches parents to validate intense emotions and act as co-regulators during distress
DIR/Floortime (PRIDE method): Child-led, play-based connection that meets your child at their developmental level
